F-2 Recap
Our Foundation to Year 2 students have made a fantastic start to the term, bringing great enthusiasm and energy to their Physical Education lessons. This term, students have launched into a soccer unit, where they are developing their fundamental movement skills through engaging and inclusive activities.
A key focus has been on learning how to control the ball through dribbling, improving passing techniques, and beginning to understand the importance of teamwork. Students are learning how to move safely in shared spaces, work cooperatively with others, and apply simple strategies during game play.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence, supporting one another, and showing persistence as they practise new skills. We look forward to continuing to build on these foundations throughout the term.
Year 3-4 Recap
Year 3 and 4 students have been actively engaged in a Hockey unit. The students have been developing their passing, dribbling, and teamwork skills through a range of fun and skill-based activities (a game of Wall Tag Hockey, anyone?)
The students showed great determination and resilience while participating in the Year 3–6 Cross Country event in Week 1, giving their best effort, and demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship throughout. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, persevering through challenges, and representing their Houses with pride! Thank you to family and friends for coming out to support our students! You'll find more photos and information about this event in the Week 1 Newsletter.
Up next for Middles is a unit on T-Ball! Students will develop and refine their skills in throwing, catching, batting, and fielding. They will also continue to strengthen their teamwork and deepen their understanding of different team sports.
Year 5-6 Recap
Our Year 5 and 6 students have also made a strong and enthusiastic start to the term in Physical Education, diving into a soccer unit with a focus on skill development and game play. Building on prior knowledge, students have been refining their dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques, while applying these skills in game situations.
A major focus for this term has been progressing towards full match play. Students are developing their understanding of positioning, spacing, and basic tactics, as well as the importance of effective communication and teamwork on the field. Through small-sided games and modified matches, students are learning how to make decisions under pressure and adapt their play to different situations.
It has been great to see students stepping up as leaders, supporting their teammates, and showing resilience and sportsmanship during competitive play. We look forward to seeing their continued growth as confident and capable players throughout the term.
District Cross Country
Our St Thomas students proudly represented the school at the recent District Cross Country event, competing against 8 different schools in a highly competitive day of racing. With approximately 70 students in each race, the standard was incredibly strong, and all participants demonstrated outstanding effort and determination.
We are thrilled to share that 8 of our students finished in the top 10 of their respective races, earning progression through to the next level at the Division Cross Country event. A huge congratulations to Sargun (8th), Keira (1st), Allegra (1st), Amanda (3rd), Miguel (4th), Joshua (6th), Azad (6th), and Salome (6th) on their fantastic achievements.
All 44 students who represented St Thomas did so with great pride, resilience, and sportsmanship. It was fantastic to see them supporting one another, giving their best effort, and embracing the challenge of competition.
The entire St Thomas community should be extremely proud of the way our students conducted themselves on the day. We wish our qualifying runners the very best as they prepare for the upcoming Division event.
