BIOLOGY

EXPLORING EVOLUTION THROUGH DNA
Our Year 12 Biology students took part in an engaging online incursion with Agriculture Victoria as part of the Get into Gums - Evolution workshop.
Students explored how different eucalypt species are related by analysing DNA sequences and using MEGA bioinformatics software to build their own phylogenetic trees.
By working with real DNA data provided by Agriculture Victoria, students investigated molecular homology and used evidence from DNA to explore the evolution and relatedness of eucalypt species.
A fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world science and bioinformatics!
Fantastic work, Year 12 Biology!
A BIG DAY OF BIOLOGY REVISION
Today, our enthusiastic Year 12 VCE Biology students had the incredible opportunity to attend a revision lecture delivered by renowned biology educator and Edrolo Biology lead presenter, Andrew Douch!
Around 100 students from six local schools came together for this fantastic learning experience, including students from Korumburra Secondary College, Mirboo North Secondary College, Leongatha Secondary College, Foster Secondary College, Mary MacKillop College and Chairo Christian School.
Andrew delivered an engaging and informative session focused on exam preparation, exam-writing skills and revising challenging biological concepts — giving students valuable strategies and confidence as they head towards their VCE Biology exams.
Our Biology girls were absolutely buzzing with enthusiasm, and the lecture was a huge hit with students from all schools!
A wonderful day of learning, collaboration and Biology — and a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn from one of the best in the field!
