Principal's Message

Mr Ben Morgan | Principal

Dear Families,

Thank you to the influential women in our students’ lives for attending today’s International Women’s Day Celebration. We were pleased to see so many mothers, grandmothers, aunties, carers, family members, role models and friends. As we continue with our major focus on community engagement, it is pleasing to see our community being so actively involved in our school life. Our students were buzzing with excitement from the beginning of the day. They could not wait to spend the afternoon with their guests and show them around our school. We would like to say a special thank you to Ms Davies and the Community Engagement Team for your hard work putting this event together.

Along with Community Engagement, our school-wide learning goal is based on improving Numeracy outcomes for students. Our explicit instruction model, supported by evidence-based practices, is helping to ensure that all students develop strong mathematical understanding and confidence. Our Grade 1 students were so proud to show off their addition skills when I visited their classroom this morning.

This week our students in Grade 3 and 5 have commenced their NAPLAN. NAPLAN can be a stressful time for some students. We like to remind our students that this is just one test on one day. We do not use these tests for any reporting purposes. They do provide us with valuable data that can be used as a system or whole school. This can help us to make decisions on the best direction for staff professional learning and for reviewing our practices. We are really proud of the way our students engaged with their NAPLAN tests this week.

We recently farewelled Nicole Rosson from John Paul II. Nicole has been working at John Paul II since 2022 as a Teacher Assistant. Nicole has now begun her teaching career at St Therese’s Catholic School in Moonah. Congratulations, Nicole, on this amazing achievement and we hope to see you back at John Paul II in the future.

Have a great weekend.
