From the Principal...

Hi everyone and welcome to the latest newsletter edition. I hope you and your families are enjoying all that’s been happening in and around MEPS over the past couple of weeks.
It has been wonderful to see so many students enjoying the breakfast club on Wednesday mornings. A great way to start the day with a healthy snack and some social opportunities.
Senior Hooptime was a wonderful day out for the students involved to showcase their basketball talents. Our lunchtime clubs program are continuing to provide a breadth of opportunities to the students across the school. Our Year 3 Oz Harvest program has seen some wonderful recipes come to life.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the science fair this week. It was amazing to see over 70 students showcase their science talents at the expo. Thank-you to Mrs Westlake and Mrs Humphreys for their amazing work in supporting this opportunity.
Next week our Preps are looking forward to the fire brigade visit on Friday August 28. We also have our Year 3-6 athletics carnival on Thursday August 27.
We also look ahead with excitement to the Year 3 camp on Wednesday September 2 and Thursday September 3 and our Year 6 camp from September 7 to September 9.
A reminder that the term concludes on Friday September 18.
Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA)
Thank-you for your patience and understanding as we have been working through the industrial action towards a negotiated new agreement. The union has agreed in principle to the agreement which now requires the positive endorsement of all employees (irrespective of union membership). This vote will take place shortly after which the agreement moves to the Fair Work Commission for final endorsement.
Please note that there is no further industrial action planned.
2027
As we approach the final four weeks of Term 3, we are well underway with some behind the scenes planning for 2027. If you are planning on departing MEPS in 2027, please inform the office via email as this will greatly benefit our forward planning.
Book Fair
Thanks to the families who have enjoyed the book fair this week. Great to see so many book lovers enjoying the opportunity of building their home libraries.
Book Week
Next week we will be enjoying all things ‘Book Week’. We have a number of activities planned that will provide some fun and inspiration to the students throughout an exciting week ahead.
Picnic Book lunch, Scavenger Hunt (Amazing race style); Book Week dress up, a range of online incursions across the week, classroom door competition and much more!!
Please note the Dress Up day will be celebrated at our assembly at 9am on Friday August 28.
Toastie Train
Congratulations to the Year 5/6 students who recently supported the Mornington Community Support Centre with the provisions of ham and cheese toasties for the local community. The final count of toasties made by our Year 5 and 6 students was 1,132 toasties!
Each of our five Year 5 and 6 classes had 30 minutes in the school kitchen to see how many toasties they could make…nothing like a bit of friendly competition for a very good cause! 😊
It was a fantastic community effort, with all of the ingredients donated by our amazing school community and families, along with some wonderful support from Bakers Delight Mt Eliza, Woolworths Mornington and Woolworths Mt Eliza.
As always, MEPS is happy to be able to contribute to the incredible community work. The students really loved being involved and knowing that their efforts were going directly towards supporting people in our local community.
SRC Update
A huge thank you to our wonderful school community for the incredible support of our Winter Warmth Drive.
The Mornington Community Support Centre was overwhelmed by the generosity of our families, with all donated coats, jackets, jumpers and blankets going directly to people in need within our local community.
We are so proud of the way our community came together to make a difference. While school collections have now finished, families wishing to continue donating can do so directly through the Mornington Community Support Centre or other local charities.
Thank you for your amazing support! Stay tuned for our next SRC event linked to R U OK Day?
Parent/Carer Feedback
Thank-you to the parents who have provided feedback via the parent opinion survey. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this as your feedback is always welcomed.
