Year 3

It has been a busy learning time in Year 3, with students engaged in a range of hands-on learning experiences across Maths, English and our sustainability program. In Maths, students have been exploring the world of angles. They have learned to identify and describe different types of angles, including right, acute and obtuse angles. Students have enjoyed becoming “angle detectives”, searching their classrooms and school for all the different angles we can see in the world around us. Check out some of the angles we created below!
This term, Year 3 has also begun the OzHarvest Program, providing students with valuable opportunities to learn about food, sustainability and healthy choices. Students have been exploring where our food comes from, ways to reduce food waste and how our everyday choices can help protect the environment. Every second Wednesday, students have enjoyed preparing delicious meals, including sandwich sushi and peach parfait, while developing important life skills such as washing dishes, cleaning up and working safely in the kitchen. Our OzHarvest learning has also extended into the garden, where students have been planting and caring for vegetables and other plants in our school veggie patch. We are excited to watch our garden grow and hopefully enjoy some of the produce we have planted!
A special thank you to Vic and Rob for helping us get our garden started and for supporting students during our OzHarvest sessions. We are also incredibly grateful to the wonderful volunteers who have generously given their time to assist with our cooking sessions, as well as our families who have donated seedlings and other supplies. Your support has made these learning experiences possible and is greatly appreciated!
In Literacy, students have been exploring the powerful picture book The Mess That We Made. The text has encouraged us to think deeply about the impact humans can have on our oceans and environment. Through class discussions and activities, students have explored important themes including pollution, protecting wildlife, taking responsibility and working together to create positive change. Building on these ideas, students have been writing expositions about protecting our oceans from pollution. They have been developing their ability to share an opinion, provide reasons and persuade their readers to take action. It has been wonderful to see our Year 3 students embracing these learning opportunities with enthusiasm, curiosity and a growing sense of responsibility!
