Mr David O'Brien - Curriculum Leader - Humanities
From Raj Keeney (Year 10)
In Week 5 of the Term, our Year 10 Legal Studies class participated in a fascinating, inquiry-based immersive incursion with Detective Senior Sargeant Sarah Heenan regarding a crime scene simulation of the school library. This related directly to our assessment for the term, which involves the class investigating a crime and then preparing a submission for a jury. The class received a collation of legal data regarding the crime, all of which led into the assignment task for the term. As well, this incursion also provided an open environment for discussion alongside an experienced criminal investigator. The boys in Year 10 Legal Studies thoroughly utilised the support from the guest speaker towards developing the assignment task, who also gave additional insight into her career and provided lots of interesting facts about her experiences and the challenges she has faced within the legal system. Overall, the incursion was a fantastic opportunity to connect with a passionate, influential member of the justice system and introduce the main assignment topic for this term. The entire class would like to thank Ms Heenan for giving up her time, and both their teacher, Ms Smith and the Curriculum Leader, Mr O’Brien for organising this experience.
