Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

As we head into Week 8, things are certainly starting to ramp up on the academic front. The boys are feeling the pressure a bit, with assignments coming due, exams to sit, and a number of the senior students putting the finishing touches on their vocational qualifications. It’s a busy stretch, no doubt about it, and it’s really important that they’re staying organised and keeping their priorities straight.

We’ve been encouraging the boys to make the most of their study time—listening carefully in class, asking questions when they’re unsure, and putting in that extra bit of preparation so they can produce their best work. There’s plenty of support around them too. Our team of tutors continues to do a great job during evening study sessions, and Mr Monk (our Academic Senior Supervisor) has been busy making sure those tutors are in the right place at the right time—focusing extra attention where it’s needed most. It’s a real team effort, and we’re seeing some positive habits building.

On a more social note, we’re really looking forward to this weekend’s Boarding Family Afternoon. It’ll be held under the big tent next to McMahon Oval, kicking off after the 1st XV match. It’s always a relaxed and enjoyable get-together—nothing formal, just a good chance to catch up, meet other families, and put some faces to the names your sons talk about. I often hear parents say they’d love to know their son’s mates a bit better, and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that. If you can, please RSVP—but don’t worry if plans change last minute, we’d still love to see you there.

As we move into the cooler part of the term, we’re also seeing the usual run of colds and flu making their way through the boarding house. We’re reminding the boys regularly about the basics—good hygiene, washing hands, and speaking up early if they’re not feeling 100%. The Health Centre staff are on hand as always, but a quick check-in from home can go a long way too. If you’re chatting with your son, it’d be great if you could reinforce those messages—and maybe double check he’s got enough warm gear sorted for the cooler mornings and evenings.

As always, thanks for your ongoing support. It really does make a difference, particularly during these busier times of the term.
