Koonung Teacher nominated for Australian of the Year
When you can't turn a blind eye
Koonung Instrumental Drum Teacher, Adrian de Luca, has been nominated for Australian of the Year and while this nomination on its own is significant, we will all be watching on late in January to the Australia Day Awards and wishing Adrian well.
It all started when Adrian was watching the news, in 2012, and learnt of the horrific bashing of an international university student from Vietnam. That news article changed Adrian's life and he has gone on to not only to make a difference to Minh, but to stand up and work tirelessly for a cause that benefits many.

A letter from Adrian:
As most of you know, I have the privilege of serving as the drum teacher at Koonung Secondary College. In addition to my role here, I am also the President and Founder of "We Are Australia" an organization dedicated to supporting international student victims of crime.
This nomination reflects the collective efforts we've put into our community and our commitment to making a positive impact. It's a recognition of the incredible work our school and "We Are Australia" have done in supporting students in need.
While I am not expected to win, being nominated is an acknowledgment of the work we do together.
I am profoundly grateful for your support, and I'm proud to represent Koonung Secondary College and "We Are Australia" on this platform. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement. Let's continue working together to make a difference in the lives of our students and the broader community.
Warm regards,
Adrian De Luca
