Year 9 Fashion & Textiles

Year 9 Fashion & Textiles students have been working all semester on perfecting their sewing and patternmaking skills. Students analysed construction techniques and patternmaking conventions to create a bag of their own design. They made calico samples to test their pattern and ideas before making a final finished bag. Our last project was to create a complete Couture Outfit working collaboratively. Students discussed possible End Users of their outfit and then constructed them carefully and considerately working together. It was great to see so many great ideas come to fruition!

You can view these outfits in the Library foyer.

Year 9 Food Truck Challenge

The Year 9 students worked in teams to create food truck menus featuring cuisines around the world.  They presented their menus to each other and voted on the menu they were most excited to cook and eat.

The 'Freaky Greeky' Food Truck menu was the standout class choice.  A delicious menu of  Souvlaki (Chicken or Haloumi/Zucchini), Tzatziki, Greek Salad and Keftedes (Greek Meatballs) was efficiently prepared in an hour.

It was an impressive feat. Well done Year 9s!

Still on Year 9s, they have been travelling around the globe and today they were in the UK. What better food to cook than the iconic meat pie!

The year 9s experiment with Sanding sugar to create these colourful spice cookies.  Sanding sugar is slighly larger than regular sugar. It is great for baking as it retains its colour and texture when heat is applied, often  creating a sparkly effect .

Fun tasks in the kitchen

Students were asked to focus on a simple presentation task today.

They created toast art using two different methods.

Method 1 – using ingredients to create an image

Method 2 – Using foil and the grill function in the oven.

This was a fast, creative and fun task.
