OLD MCKINNON / GLEN EIRA FOOTBALL CLUB
Congratulations to the Glen Eira/Old McKinnon women’s team on their victory against Hampton Rovers in the VAFA Div 2 Women’s Grand Final, with an impressive score of 65-10!
The side has been dominant all year, finishing in top spot with 12 wins from their 16 matches. Over 10 McKinnon alumni play in this side, including eight players in the winning final side.
Alumni include captain Gemma Strangio (Class of 2019), Julia Pavlou (Class of 2019), and Taya Minin (Class of 2022).
Well done on an incredible season!
The men's side also achieved success this season, up in the Premier C division of the VAFA. The side finished just outside the finals having won 7 matches in their first season promoted to the Premier division.
The two Under 19 men's sides finished their seasons after a challenging season up in Division 1 of the Under 19 competition.
We congratulate all the former McKinnon students who have been a part of the Old McKinnon Football sides in 2024.
RISING STAR NICHOLAS MAVROPOULOS (CLASS OF 2023)
Congratulations to Nick Mavropoulos (Class of 2023) who was awarded the VAFA Rising Star award in Round 12.
Nick played 4 games in the Under 19s for the Old McKinnon/Glen Eira last season, and stepped up to senior footy this season, playing in all 12 senior games and polling Best Player votes in 6 of them.
50 GAMES GEMMA STRANGIO (CLASS OF 2019)
Gemma captained the premiership side and the club says, "she leads the team by example and she sets the highest standards for work rate and dedication. The in and under player who will always be at the bottom of the pack, or diving on the line to smother a goal."

50 GAMES JULIA PAVLOU (CLASS OF 2019)
Julia also reached the milstone of 50 games for Old McKinnon/Glen Eira FC this year. The club says she is a "beast in the ruck" and "never fails to intimidate our opponents and serve the ball on a platter! She is our backbone".
