MUAY THAI SUCCESS

CHLOE DICKSON (CLASS OF 2008) AND DENVER KAN (CLASS OF 2019)

Chloe Dickson, class of 2008, won her first professional Muay Thai fight in 2023, at the Rebellion Muay Thai event at Melbourne Pavilion. After several successful amateur fights, Chloe was matched against a professional athlete who had previously fought in several winning battles and had spent a lot of time training in Thailand. On the big stage, Chloe successfully defeated her opponent in three rounds. Commentators were particularly impressed by her determination and use of knees. Her stamina and resilience were also commented upon.

Chloe found the sport of Muay Thai in 2019 and was immediately drawn to its history and traditions, which combines athletic skill with respect and discipline. Since then, she has been training hard, excluding a short period when she was pregnant and then raising her first child.

As well as developing her own skills and expertise, Chloe and her partner, have established their own Muay Thai gym in Caulfield South, Khaoboy Muaythai. There, they have grown a strong community of members, including a teens program with several afternoon sessions each week. Several current McKinnon students attend their classes.

One of their regular members is Denver Kan, class of 2019. Denver has been training at Khaoboy since the beginning of this year and has joined their “fighters group”. He has competed in some interclub fights in preparation for his first amateur fight, which took place on Sunday 20 August. Denver won this fight, taking home his first winner’s medal.

His trainers have remarked upon his work ethic and desire to succeed. He is physically and mentally strong and throws powerful punches with his strong hands. This is just the beginning of Denver’s Muay Thai journey towards professional competitions.

Congratulations to both Chloe and Denver on their success.
