What's On In 5/6

Maths Games Day
Last Thursday, eight of our Grade 5/6 students represented our school at the Maths Games Day held at Box Hill High. The event was packed with exciting challenges, including logic and reasoning puzzles, maths-based board games, and strategic problem-solving activities. Students competed for tokens and put their maths skills to the test against teams from other schools, and even against teachers!
We’re proud to share that out of 13 teams, our students achieved 2nd and 3rd place, a fantastic result that reflects their teamwork and sharp thinking.
“One of the highlights of the day was the chance to challenge students from other schools while discovering new and fun ways to apply mathematical concepts” Aaron and Shaaz - 5/6C
Congratulations to our amazing team: Aaron, Shaaz, Juliet, Moli, Justin, Tahlia, Karina, and Annabel!
Summer Sports:
Our 5/6 students participated in two rounds of interschool summer sports, competing in volleyball, down ball, basketball and tennis/hot shots.
We arrived at Mullum Mullum Stadium, my heart pounded, the day has come…will we win or lose? I hop off the bus and have a look around, there are so many teams and some students are two times my size! My excitement turns into nervousness, but it's too late to quit now. We start our first match, the other team serves first, we whack it straight back and win the first point. We played well for the next few games reaching the final. It’s time to play the final against the other undefeated team. We gave it our best shot, we kept up and just missed out in the second set, but we came second! - Ben U 5/6C
I build up my excitement like a tower that never ends, voices and laughter fills the bus, flooding my ear drums. “Mullum Mullum stadium”, that’s our destination! I hop off the bus with my friends, one after another onto the shiny courts. Volleyballs fly in the air and they come soaring down. My teacher hands me the ball and then the glory hits me. Practice after practice game, boys and girls stand tall with victory. The grand finale awaits my team…BANG, the ball hits the ground for the last time, we were all so focused, we anxiously await the result. “Whitehorse - congratulations” the words played in my head like a movie until I got back to school. We won! But best of all it was a load of fun! - Lily N 5/6C
