What's On In Foundation

Maths

Foundation students have recently spent time exploring the concept of sharing, the pre learning for division.

First we explored the language of sharing. After Mrs Hudson had a big bowl of lollies for her, and only a little bowl for all of Foundation, the word ‘unfair’ could be heard! She then made sure everyone had the same for a ‘fair share’.

Children spent time sharing objects to decide if it was a fair or unfair share. We then drew an apple tree, our family and a special remainder or ‘left overs’ basket. We rolled the dice, put the apple counters on the tree and then shared them with our family, putting any left overs in the basket.

The text ‘The Doorbell Rang’ was fabulous inspiration for us to make playdoh cookies. We then shared them in a variety of ways. We soon worked out, the more people you have to share with, the less you get!

Kids in the Kitchen!

On Tuesday Foundation students were beyond excited to head into the kitchen to cook. Aprons were tied, hands were washed and sleeves were rolled up, ready to create some masterpieces. A delicious menu of Veggie Pizza and Lemon and Coconut muffins was about to be prepared. We had so much fun rolling the dough for the pizza base, sprinkling on the topping and mixing a sticky lemon icing for our cupcakes.

It was lovely to see everyone trying new foods and sitting down to enjoy a meal together. A big thanks to our Grade 5/6 Helpers and to Deb for planning such a yummy menu!
