From the Library

Welcome Back to a New Year at St Mary’s College Library!
A fresh school year means new opportunities, new stories, and, of course, new books! In fact, the Children’s Book Council of Australia has chosen the theme ‘Book an adventure’ for 2025. Whether you’re settling back into study mode, searching for your next great read, or just looking for a quiet space to think or play a game with your friends, the Library is here for you.
Our First Featured Event – Library Lovers’ Day!
Mark your calendars for Friday 14th February—it’s Library Lovers’ Day! To celebrate, every student and teacher will receive a special gift from the Library. We’ll also be shining a spotlight on a true Library Lover, Alexis Akkersdyk from Grade 3, who recently rescued a long-lost book that had gone astray years ago under her older sibling’s watch. Knowing it still had plenty of life left in its pages, she returned it on behalf of her brother - dust and all! A true hero of the shelves! If you, too, have any books lurking in the shadows, now’s the time to drop them into the ‘Returns’ box at the Front Desk—no questions asked!
Lost & Found: The Great Library Book Hunt!
With the new school year underway, it’s time for a quick "Recon" mission for any missing St Mary’s College Library books that might have gone on extended holidays.
Here are some top hiding spots (as identified by seasoned book hunters):
📚 School bags, lockers, and desks – Even the most organised students have been surprised.
🏡Toy boxes & bookshelves – Especially the ones at Nan and Pop’s or your weekend getaway.
🛌🏼Under beds & furniture – Dust bunnies make terrible librarians.
🚘Cars & backpacks – Because sometimes books love a road trip.
If you discover any prodigal books, we’d love to welcome them back—no guilt, no judgment! Just pop them in the ‘Returns’ box at the Front Desk.
The great news from the Library in Term 1 of 2025 is that our learning and recreation space is growing and is even more popular at Lunchtimes than ever. So come on in!
