Career Insights with Marc Bongers – Class of '96
Last term, Wangaratta High School was thrilled to welcome back alumnus Marc Bongers (Class of 1996), who returned to share his inspiring post-Year 12 journey with current students.
Marc’s story is one of exploration, resilience, and passion. After finishing Year 12, he embarked on a backpacking adventure across Europe, taking on a variety of jobs - from working in horse stables and nurseries to pulling pints in Irish bars. These experiences laid the foundation for a career that eventually led him to become a professional surveyor, now working with cutting-edge drone technology.
Students were captivated by Marc’s live drone demonstration on the school oval, featuring a drone valued at $40,000. He spoke about the importance of safety, regulations, and most importantly, finding a career you genuinely enjoy. His key message? Explore, try new things, and enjoy the ride.
A highlight for many was seeing Marc proudly wearing his original VCE jumper, a nostalgic nod to his time at Wangaratta High School.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Marc for sharing his journey and inspiring the next generation of Wangaratta High School graduates. We’re incredibly proud of all he’s achieved and grateful for his continued connection to our school community.
