YEAR 9 CLC Program

C.L.C WORKING BEE – Year 9's Give Back at Myrrhee School 🌿

Before the end of term three our Year 9 C.L.C (Community Leadership Challenge) students headed to Myrrhee School for a working bee full of teamwork and community spirit.

Split into six groups, they helped transform the campus, clearing sheds, refreshing garden beds, spreading soft fall on the playground, removing old wire from the chook shed, and tidying the forest bike track, all alongside Myrrhee students and staff.

Teachers praised how well the groups connected, showing teamwork, kindness, empathy and resilience. Standout leaders included Jeremy Bagley, Jas Harper, Kate Preston, Tahlia Houston, Asher Hardman, Ruby Barnard, Remi Thewlis, and Zya Da Silva.

A special moment came when young student Harper shared his short story with the group — earning a huge round of applause.

Thank you to Principal Emma Moir and the Myrrhee community for hosting us, and congratulations to our Year 9's for continuing the proud C.L.C tradition of giving back to rural schools..

CLC Fundraiser for Make-A-Wish 🌟

As part of CLC, I chose to help raise money for Make-A-Wish, supporting children’s dreams and bringing joy to those in need and their families. Alongside our CLC members, Riley, Cyruss, Amelia and Steph, we decided to bake and sell slices and cakes to raise funds for this amazing cause.

Our baking began on October 8, with batches of choc-raspberry slice and coconut balls. Some of our wonderful teachers also joined in, contributing hedgehog slice, chocolate muffins, and rocky road to the stall.

The rocky road, coconut balls, and hedgehog slices turned out to be crowd favourites and sold out quickly!

On behalf of our CLC group, I’d like to thank everyone who supported our cake stall and helped make a difference. Your generosity means the world — and to the kids whose wishes you’re helping come true. 💙

VOLUNTEERS GIVE BACK-Year 9 C.L.C Making Large Impact

Our nine C.L.C (Community Leadership Challenge) volunteers are once again out in the community every Wednesday—continuing a proud 18-year tradition of kindness, empathy, and service.

Now two weeks into their 5-week placements, students are supporting a range of organisations through activities like assisting in classrooms, running sports clinics, gardening, fundraising, and connecting with residents in aged care.

Highlights so far include the Wangaratta West PS Grounds Crew earning praise for laying eight bluestone pavers ahead of the school’s West Fest, and the Iloura Aged Care team bringing board games to brighten residents’ days. Meanwhile, five former Yarrunga PS students have returned to help run P.E. classes with teacher and WHS alum, Riley Minns.

Each week, we celebrate their efforts and the positive impact they’re making.

A big thank you to our partner organisations for their ongoing support:

Wangaratta West PS • Yarrunga PS • Wangaratta PS • WDSS • Iloura Aged Care • Respect St John’s Aged Care • Make-A-Wish Australia

Semester 1 CLC Magazine

To celebrate our celebrate Semester 1 of our CLC Program, we proudly present the following magazine:

Rather than waiting to publish giant issues at the end of the year (as we did in 2023 and 2024), this year we will publish them term-by-term.

These "smaller chunks of steak" will be easier to chew on throughout the year, and also keep our achievements fresh in everyone's mind.

The complete whole-year Yearbooks will also be published at year's end, as we know a lot of you like to save them and store as a keepsake.

Thank you to all players, families and staff involved in both programs so far in 2025.

We look forward to another massive few months in Term 3.
