Year 7 In-School Camp

Down by the Creek

A small group of enthusiastic year 7 ‘Pioneers’ camped ‘down the creek’ below the sports field on Friday night, in the first of what we hope will be many, ‘in-school’ camps in the future.

The camp was a huge success with the students enthusiastically participating in all of the activities; pitching their tents, playing some special sporting games, cooking their (own recipe) dinner on a special ‘trangia’ camp stove, taking an adventurous night walk to the northern beaches of the Ovens River and singing around the campfire.

Everyone slept well overnight and woke to some steaming camp porridge with bananas and honey (not everyone took up that challenge) …after which, we packed up camp and everyone got picked up by their parents at 8:00am (they probably got bacon and eggs for breakfast at home?).

Special thanks to the visiting teachers, Mr Paola, Ms Reynolds, Ms Nott, Ms O’Kane and Ms Stewart and to supervising (overnight) teacher Ms Tennent.  Also thanks to Ash West and to Ellie and Georgia Meggs and Lachie Pensak for the excellent leadership roles they played.

There will be three more ‘in-school’ camps in term 4:  Year 8 = Friday 7 November, Year 9 = Friday 14 November and Year 10 (plus some Year 7 students) = Friday 28 November
