Sport: Triathlon Merlin Tzaros
Bronze Medal at World Championships
Year 11 student Merlin Tzaros has won an individual Bronze Medal at the World Triathlon World Championships Finals yesterday in Wollongong.
The 16-year old clinched 3rd in the 16-19 Age Group Sprint Championship, in a field of 77 athletes from all over the globe.
The AusTriathlon Australian Champion completed the course (750m ocean swim, 20km ride, 5km run) in well under an hour, his time of 58:10 leaving him just 7 seconds off 2nd place.
A wonderful effort for the 16-year old who is a bottom-ager and one of the youngest in the age group,
It is especially inspiring, considering he in August suffered a serious gluteal tear and couldn’t run for over a month, so had to do extensive rehab and adapt his training.
Congratulations Merlin. We’re extremely proud of you.
