Year 11 Outdoor Education

Evan's Creek 3-Day Expedition

The Year 11 Outdoor & Environmental Studies class had an awesome experience last week completing an expedition they had planned back in term 3.

The first day they trekked from Lake William Hovell up to Evan’s Creek Hut and enjoyed a chilly night with plenty of ice on the tents in the morning.  Day 2 was tough; we walked (up and up) to Bald Hill (at almost 1,300m) and then a lot of ‘up and down’ until 5:30pm when we finally arrived at Tomahawk Hut after some amazing views and certainly a lot of physical challenge.

The final day we trekked along the ridge and down the very steep track back to Lake William Hovell and returned to School by about 4:20pm.  The students showed excellent resilience and determination and demonstrated good map skills and teamwork.  They also all learned that planning an expedition by looking at a 2-dimensional map is very different than the experience of actually walking the trails.

What an experience!

Special thanks to Ms Smith for her epic effort and excellent support of the group.
