Principal's Message

As Term 4 moves quickly towards its final weeks, I’m writing this message from Japan, where I’m currently visiting schools and education partners as part of an international student recruitment and marketing tour across Japan and South Korea.
It has been wonderful to connect with families abroad and share the spirit of Mentone Girls’ Secondary College, a place where excellence, inclusion, and global understanding come together every day. Our vision is to build a learning community that values diversity and embraces global perspectives, and this trip - following on from Yinan Zhang’s (International Student Program coordinator) recent visit to China - is part of our commitment to extending those connections. We are proud of the growing reputation of MGSC as a school that nurtures both academic strength and cultural awareness.
This term has already seen so many moments of pride and celebration. The 70th Anniversary Celebration was a spectacular success, despite the wild Melbourne weather. Over a 1000 former students and staff filled our corridors with laughter, memories, and gratitude. The event showcased the passion, teamwork, and dedication that define MGSC. A heartfelt thank you to every staff member, student and volunteer who made the day so special; your warmth and professionalism reminded everyone why our school community is so admired.
Our Performing Arts and Visual Arts programs have also been shining brightly. From the Music Expo and Vocal Night 2.0, to the RSL Gig, Art & Design Show, and the incredible Aerobics and Dance Spring Challenge, our talented students continue to inspire us with their creativity, discipline, and joy in performance. Thank you to our passionate staff who guide and support them every step of the way. It has been equally heartening to see the continued focus on academic progress and student wellbeing. Staff across all domains have supported students through PAT Testing, exam preparation, and Year 12 final assessments with care and professionalism.
The principles of excellence, respect, and resilience are clearly reflected in these efforts. As our senior students complete their final exams and younger year levels prepare for end-of-year assessments, let’s continue to encourage each student to do their personal best and to support one another with kindness.
In the coming weeks, we’ll celebrate achievements at Presentation Evening and continue planning for 2026, including welcoming our new Year 7 families. Whether at home or abroad, I am immensely proud of the way our staff, students, and parents embody the MGSC spirit — inclusive, compassionate and outward-looking.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making MGSC a place of opportunity, connection, and pride.
Warm regards
Linda Brown
