Form Group for Years 7–10 in 2026
New bell times from Headstart
In 2026, Mentone Girls’ Secondary College will re-introduce Form Group for all Year 7 to Year 10 students. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing, connection, and engagement, and aligns with the Department of Education’s focus on enabling learning through strong routines and consistent procedures.
Form Group will take place at the beginning of each school day and will provide students with a structured, positive start to the school day. It will be a time to connect with peers and teachers, receive important daily information, and prepare for learning. Establishing this morning routine supports students to feel settled, organised, and ready to engage fully in their classes.
Form Group will begin at 8:50am each day. Period 1 will commence at 9:03am.
Bell times have been adjusted for 2026 (beginning at Headstart) and the last class of the day, Period 5, will now finish at 3:10pm.
Attendance at Form Group will be an important part of the school day. During this time, uniform will be checked, and key messages will be shared. The Form Teacher will serve as the first point of contact each day, helping to support communication, wellbeing, and organisation.
Where possible, the Form Teacher will also teach their Form Group in another subject area. This continuity helps to strengthen relationships and ensures that every student has a trusted adult who knows them well and can provide guidance and support when needed.
We are confident that the introduction of Form Group will enhance students’ sense of belonging, promote consistency across the school, and contribute to positive learning outcomes. Through connection, routine, and care, we aim to help every student start their day at MGSC feeling supported, confident, and ready to learn.

Uniform Review
In recent months, the MGSC College Council has reviewed our student uniform policy. Thank you to the students, parents and carers, and staff, who provided detailed feedback and contributed to the uniform review.
College Council recently approved the revised Uniform Policy for 2026. A copy of the updated policy can be found here and on the website.
We intend to implement the new policy from Monday 1 December 2025, the first day of 2026 classes for Year 8 to 12 students (Headstart)
What are the main changes?
- We are moving to a 'transeasonal' uniform, meaning we no longer have a 'winter' and 'summer' uniform, but rather a 'cool weather' and 'warm weather' uniform.
- We have clarified our expectations around jewellery, make-up, hair colour, and false lashes.
- Three items no longer require a MGSC logo – the sports tracksuit pants, sports shorts, and academic shorts. The items can still be purchased at Bob Stewart; however, families now have the option of purchasing these items elsewhere, as long as they meet our uniform guidelines in terms of colour and style.
College Council members felt strongly that the MGSC blazer is an important part of our school’s identity and a symbol of school pride within the broader community. The uniform policy states that it is an expectation that the blazer is worn to and from school each day. The blazer should be worn on excursions and to all College Assemblies. On days when the temperature is forecast to exceed 25 degrees it will not be compulsory for students to wear their blazer home; however, the school jumper should not be the outer layer of clothing worn.
Thank you again to everyone involved in the uniform review.
