Robotics Club

The MGSC RoboSapiens have recently concluded another exhilarating, challenging, and amazing season of the First Lego League Challenge, one that tested our skills in teamwork and collaboration. It was a new chapter of many firsts, as this year we saw the largest number of applications to join the club as we navigate the challenges of coding and scientific research. Ultimately, everyone’s dedication and effort led to immense success and pride in the whirlwind that was the robotics competition.

For a semester, the RoboSapiens became a hub of creativity in preparation for this year’s season: UNEARTHED. Before the announcement of the theme, our teammates were already hard at work on practising (and many learning) how to code our robots in the past seasons’ mats and challenges. We learnt to prototype, test, fail and repeat, but never throwing our hands up in the air and giving up. As the season progressed, we now have many incredible new coders in our team as they are now tasked with applying their skills to a new mat with even more challenging tasks for the robot to complete and eventually compete.

However, coding isn’t everything in our developmental process; the RoboSapiens also had to complete an innovation project alongside the robot game. The theme of 2025 was UNEARTHED, so teams had to select an issue in the field of archeology and propose a solution to a panel of judges (consisting of field experts and professors) on the competition day. Through this, our competing teams navigated the planning stages of researching a field-specific problem and brainstorming a viable solution for our presentation.

With members ranging from year seven to eleven, we all worked effectively as the season progressed, and both teams received overwhelmingly supportive feedback from the judges in both the robot game and innovation project presentation. Carrying this energy to the competition day, we were awarded the mentor award for our coach, Mr Yong, for demonstrating exceptional “gracious professionalism” (clap, clap, whooooo! iykyk).

We are incredibly grateful to our mentors and coaches, Mr Yong, Mr Verimeff, Mr Hall, the Parents and Friends Association and our school for their unwavering support all year. This season was truly incredible and more than just about winning points; it was about building character, finding confidence, and making memories that will undoubtedly inspire us in all our future endeavours.

We can't wait to see what is in store for the RoboSapiens next year!
