Yellow Raised Crossing
Important Safety Announcement
As part of Knox Council’s shared path project, a yellow-painted, raised crossing was installed outside our school near the roundabout of Amesbury Ave and Harold St, for student safety.
This raised crossing is an official pedestrian crossing that gives priority to pedestrians and cyclists. We want to remind all families about the rules as a pedestrian or a driver:
For Pedestrians:
Encourage your child to use the crossing
Before stepping out, look both ways and make eye contact with drivers
Don’t linger near or on the crossing. Move at a steady pace to keep traffic flowing safely.
For Drivers:
All drivers must stop at the stop line when someone is crossing or about to cross.
Always slow down when approaching a raised crossing. Be prepared to stop at any time.
Do not park, stop, or drop off your child on or too close to the crossing. This obstructs visibility and puts students at risk.
Failing to stop at a pedestrian crossing may result in fines.
Expect queuing on Amesbury Avenue from the crossing, do not enter the Harold Street / Amesbury Avenue roundabout unless you can go through the roundabout without obstructing it.
We know school pick-up time can cause a bit of traffic, but the congestion typically only lasts around 10 minutes. To help keep things flowing smoothly, we encourage students to walk or ride to school where possible and enjoy the new cycling path around the school. If you're driving, consider using the side road for parking to help ease the pressure on Harold Street and Amesbury Avenue.
