What a wonderful term we have had in Grade 1/2! Our students have been busy exploring new ways of learning through writing, reading, maths, music and fun experiences together.

Procedural Writing

This term, our students became experts at giving instructions by learning how to write clear and detailed procedures. One of the highlights was when they wrote a procedure for how to make a jam and butter sandwich – and Ms Dyson bravely followed their steps! Students found it hilarious when some of the instructions weren’t quite as detailed as they needed to be, which was a great lesson about being specific and clear in their writing.

We also enjoyed reading the classic story Wombat Stew. Inspired by the book, students created their own versions of the stew, filled with all sorts of funny and creative ingredients. They then wrote procedures to explain how to make their unique stews – a fun and imaginative way to put their writing skills into action!

Mathematics – Measuring Mass

In Maths, students have been busy learning all about mass. Using balance scales, they have investigated which objects are heavier, lighter, or equal in mass. This hands-on learning has been a big hit, with students enthusiastically predicting, testing and comparing different objects around the classroom. It has been wonderful to see their excitement and teamwork as they develop a deeper understanding of measurement.

Vintage Vinyl Concert

What an amazing performance our students gave at the recent Vintage Vinyl Concert! They absolutely smashed the singing and dancing, and it was fantastic to see their confidence and joy shining on stage. A huge congratulations to all of our Grade 1/2 stars – you truly rocked it!

Grade 1/2 Camp Day

We are certain that students are going to absolutely LOVE their Grade 1/2 Camp Day activities! With biscuit decorating, craft, construction and dancing on the program, it’s sure to be a fun-filled day. The evening will bring pizza and a movie for dinner, and for our Grade 2 students, a special sleepover experience that we know will create wonderful memories. We look forward to writing about the experience in the next newsletter.

Looking Ahead

It has been a busy and exciting term of learning, and we are so proud of the effort and creativity our students have shown. Who knows – with all these creative recipes, careful measurements and amazing performances, maybe the next master chef, scientist or superstar performer is right here in our classrooms!
