As Term 3 begins, we’re excited to share a few updates about the evolving structure of our ICT support at St Mary’s.

💻 The ICT Team Is Now Fully In-House Tyler has recently transitioned from a long-time contractor into a fully in-house role as an official staff member of St Mary’s. Together, we now form a dedicated team focused solely on supporting the College’s technology needs.

💻 A Bit More About Us

Oliver is a familiar face to some, having been a St Mary’s student from 2017 to 2020 (Years 7 to 10). In 2023, Oliver returned to the College one day a week for casual ICT work experience, before officially starting his traineeship at the beginning of 2024. Since then, he has completed his first Certificate IV qualification and continues to build on his skills through hands-on experience and further training.

Tyler, having worked with the College for several years in a contractor role, is now officially part of the St Mary’s staff. He brings a wealth of experience in networking, systems, and infrastructure, and continues to manage and maintain the College’s backend systems while working closely with Oliver on broader support and improvement projects.

💻 A New Shared Front Desk Approach

To improve access to support while balancing long-term ICT projects, Tyler and Oliver now alternate each week between two key roles:

  • Front Desk ICT Support - One member is stationed at the ICT Front Desk, focusing on supporting staff and students with any issues that arise during the week.

  • Project Development & Training - The other member uses this time for upskilling, completing training, and working on larger improvement initiatives for the College’s ICT environment.

This rotating structure not only boosts the College’s tech capabilities but also allows both team members to understand each other’s areas of expertise - while still maintaining their primary focus (Oliver with SIMON, Tyler with networking and infrastructure).

💻 Working with MACS on Improvements

As part of St Mary’s ongoing commitment to improving technology across the College, the ICT team works closely with Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) on a variety of initiatives. One major upgrade on the horizon is a significant improvement to our fiber network, which will increase internet speeds and capacity across the campus - an exciting enhancement for both students and staff.

💻 Looking Ahead

With a stronger internal ICT structure now in place, we’re better positioned than ever to respond to day-to-day tech needs and plan for future innovations at St Mary’s. As always, we appreciate the ongoing support and engagement from the College community — and we look forward to continuing to make the tech experience smoother, faster, and smarter for everyone.
