Term 1, Week 6
To celebrate our first Wednesday of Prep, we held a 'Teddy Bear Picnic'! We had a lot of fun decorating teddy bear biscuits, making headbands and sharing our learning with the teddies before heading outside to enjoy a picnic. Over the past fortnight we have had lots of fun building our fine motor skills, learning all our yellow Stage 1 sounds and all about the numbers 1 - 8.

Home reading book
We will begin writing comments in your child's Home Reading Book about what sounds they know and what sounds to keep practising at home. We will also write in the Heart Word and sound focus for the week. Students will have their diary checked once per week, and when readers begin, these will be changed on the same day their diary is checked. Please make sure you are using the log book to record any home practise, and checking for any communications from your classroom teacher. Please ensure the green reader bag comes to school each day.
No nuts at school for Prep to Grade 2
Please read the Compass News Feed post published by Brett Parkes on January 28th, if you haven't already.
Nurse form
You will have received information about our school nurse visits in your child's reader bag two weeks ago. Please fill in the online consent form by the end of the week. If you do not consent, please mark that you do not consent on the online form. If you would like a paper version of the consent form, please contact your classroom teacher.
Often the School Nurse picks up things that have been unnoticed such as the need for glasses or hearing difficulties. If these things are picked up quickly, children will have much more success in the classroom. This is a free service for all families.
Weeks 7 & 8
In Literacy we will learn to say the most common sound for, and how to write 'b, h, n, and o'. In week 8, we will learn the remaining Stage 2 sounds 'd, g, l and v'. We can read and spell lots of three letter words with these sounds! Our book of the week for Week 7 is 'Room on the Boom' and in Week 8 it is 'Monster Chef'.
Prep children have been learning to read and make three letter words with the Stage 1 sounds. Each child has a set of yellow sounds in their sound bag. Please help them to make a word and encourage them to blend the sounds together to read it.
In Mathematics, will be learning about the numbers 9 and 10, and the concept of 0. We will also learn about 2D shapes.
In Topic, we will be continuing our learning of growth mindset and learning about taking responsible risks.
In Respectful Relationships, we share our strengths and discuss how it feels good when people like us just the way we are.
Through SWPBS, we will continue learning about our school values with a focus of respect. We will learn how to respect others' personal space and keeping our hands and feet to ourselves.
