Dear Grade 5/6 Families,
We’ve had a wonderful two weeks in our classrooms, packed with learning, teamwork and plenty of positive vibes. It’s been great to see the students diving into their work with such enthusiasm.
Our class reward system is still going strong, and students have been making us incredibly proud by living out our school values each day. They’re cheering each other on, celebrating successes, and really taking ownership of their achievements. The Gugu Canteen has been such a roaring success that we’re already running low on supplies! While that may present a small stock shortage, it’s a fantastic reflection of just how awesome and engaged our students are.
A small tech reminder: we’ve had a few netbooks arriving at school low on battery. Please remind your child to charge their device each evening, as we use them throughout the day for a variety of learning tasks.
Our fluid grouping in Maths continues to be a big win. Students are thriving in targeted groups tailored to their learning needs. We’ve already seen wonderful growth in confidence and understanding, particularly in the areas of Whole Number and Time. It’s been fantastic watching students stretch themselves and embrace new challenges.
Next fortnight...
We will be revising the sound d (for duck) and i (for igloo), while also exploring their Greek and Latin roots. Our work with prefixes and suffixes continues as we build strong word knowledge. In Mathematics, we’re launching into our addition and subtraction unit, which will likely carry us through to the end of term and for our IT focus, we will maintain our strong cyber safety focus, learning how to use our netbooks responsibly and how to navigate cyberbullying and other online challenges safely and confidently.
In Week 7, our Grade 5 students will participate in NAPLAN. We have every confidence that they will give their best effort, which is all we ever ask.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
5/6 Team
