Feedback on Student Learning

Brinbeal Secondary College provides parents with a range of ways to stay informed about their child's progress. The first cycle of Learning Characteristic Reports was published last week. Assessment results will be published for most subject areas of the next couple of weeks. Parent teacher interviews will be taking place at the end of term and are currently open for booking.

Learning Characteristic Reports

The latest Learning Characteristic Reports for Semester One were published and can be found in the Reports tab on Compass. These assess 5 key characteristics of good learning:

  • Arriving to class on time
  • Being prepared to learn
  • Displaying a positive attitude towards learning
  • Working cooperatively with others
  • Completing set tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Completing homework

Learning Characteristic Reports are published every five weeks.

Learning Tasks

Throughout the semester students have completed a number of assessments in each subject. These are published on Compass as Learning Tasks prior to the assessment to inform parents and students of upcoming assessment. On completion of the task, teachers assess the student work and record the result on Compass to provide students and parents with regular feedback throughout the year.

Feedback will be provided in two parts:

  1. Victorian Curriculum Descriptor: This is a teacher judgement of the standard of work completed and linked directly to the Victorian Curriculum. Students are assessed as being "Below the Expected Level", "Working Towards the Expected Level", "At the Expected Level" or "Above the Expected Level".
  2. Teacher Comment: This is a short paragraph which provides students and parents with feedback on what the student achieved, how they worked throughout the task and an area for improvement.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Semester One Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday 1st April from 3:15pm to 7:15pm and Thursday 2nd April from 9:15am to 1pm.

Please note: classes will run as normal on the Wednesday, however there will be no classes running on Thursday 2nd April to allow the interviews to take place.

Parents/Carers are encouraged to allocate time on one of these days to meet with their child's teachers. Students should attend the interviews with their parents. The interviews provide families with an opportunity to discuss their child's progress and ask any questions they may have.

Booking for the interviews are to be made via Compass (please see the attached guide) or by contacting the General Office on 8001 3333. Families who require an interpreter during the interviews are asked to contact the General Office to enable an interpreter to be booked.

Please note: Mrs Paleologoudias and Ms Unnisa will not be available for interviews.
