Student Leaders

STUDENT REPRESENTIVE COUNCIL

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is an opportunity for students to experience leadership at school, and to actively participate in decision making, planning and program implementation within the College. The students presented a speech to their mentor class and were elected by their peers based on merit and commitment to representing the College Values for a twelve-month term of office.

The roles and responsibilities of the SRC include:

  • Representing class and peers at monthly student voice and leadership meetings.
  • Representing the College at school and community events.
  • Actively participating in school assemblies.
  • Promoting school activities and events.
  • Upholding the College values of Respect, Acceptance, Aspiration and Achievement always.

Congratulations to the following students who have been voted in by their peers to represent each class on the Student Representative Council, along with the College and House Captains.

The following student profiles were written by our Year 9 Journalism students.

This newsletter issue we will be running profiles on the College and House Captains, with the SRC's being profiled in future issues.

Mia Gray

Taj Spangler

Mia is proud to be College Captain in 2026 because she enjoys leading and setting a good example for other students. She wants to build her confidence, especially in public speaking and listening to ideas from teachers and students.

Netball is a big part of Mia’s life, and she also cares a lot about her family and friends. Something else that is important to Mia is school — she likes setting a strong example and always striving to do her best.

This year, Mia hopes to help make school “very fun and enjoyable for everyone” so all students can enjoy being part of the college community.

Taj is proud to be College Captain in 2026 because he wants to show that you don’t have to be the most popular, smartest or most athletic student to be a leader — you just have to choose it and not be afraid of failing or making mistakes.

Taj believes real leadership is about adapting, learning from mistakes and showing mental strength. He says trying his hardest in sport and choosing how to act well is very important to him.

This year, Taj hopes to make a major impact by changing students’ school life for the better and showing that “school isn’t just for learning but to help you as you are now.”

Naomi Ashley

Jenessa Mistry

Naomi is proud to be Coolup House Captain in 2026 because she wants to make a positive difference and help students feel supported and included. She enjoys encouraging others to get involved and believes leadership is about setting a good example.

Naomi’s faith, family and sport are very important to her because they teach her respect, resilience and teamwork.

This year, she hopes to build strong house spirit and create fun activities, like charity stalls, that bring everyone together. She wants these events to “give everyone a chance to work together, be creative, and also contribute to the wider community.”

Jenessa Mistry says she was motivated to become Coolup House Captain by her mum, who encouraged her to step up and “make a change and use my voice for the better.”

What matters most to Jenessa is doing things to help other people and showing she can encourage, support and reassure them. She wants school to be a place where everyone feels safe, included and proud to be part of the community.

This year, Jenessa hopes to make sure no one feels left out and, as she says, “I want students to try new things, even if they aren't the best at it, but to give it a go and try to have fun out of it.”

Ahsan Azhar

Hala Baltagi

Ahsan chose to become Warrat House Captain in 2026 because leadership is something he truly cares about and he wants to make a real difference.

He has been a student leader before at Brinbeal and enjoys bringing new ideas and positive energy to the school, hoping to “use my position of responsibility to enact real change that represents the voices of all of my peers.”

Outside of school, Ahsan loves basketball, gaming and, most of all, eating. This year, he wants to help Warrat House get the recognition it deserves and build strong house pride.

He also hopes to continue creating an inclusive and supportive school environment for everyone

Hala says becoming a leader started as “a leap of faith,” as she never thought she would take on a leadership role. After signing up for House Captain, she quickly realised she loved it and found confidence in herself.

Respect is very important to Hala, and she believes it helps make Brinbeal Secondary College a diverse and multicultural community.

This year, she hopes to introduce an anti-bullying system to support students who are targeted for their learning differences, race, culture or religion, saying she prefers the term “different ability.”

As Hala explains, “No one must be shamed for who they are and what they believe in.”

Ishaal Ahmed

Muriel Saidu

Ishaal is proud to be Kooira House Captain again in 2026, even though she originally planned to focus only on her studies this year.

After encouragement from others, she realised how much the role means to her, especially after leading Kooira for the past three years and helping the house secure two wins.

Equality is very important to Ishaal — she believes everyone deserves the same respect, no matter their race, religion, sexuality or identity — and she isn’t afraid to speak up for what she believes in.

This year, Ishaal hopes to introduce new support programs for students who may be struggling, reminding everyone that “needing help is normal; students shouldn't be ashamed, and they aren't alone.”

Muriel chose to be Kooria House Captain because she wants to “encourage and uplift others.”

She took on the role not just for herself, but to help include and support everyone in her house.

Track and field is very important to Muriel because it has helped her stay fit and active, while also allowing her to make many friends and gain new experiences.

This year, Muriel hopes to make a positive impact by helping build Brinbeal Secondary College’s reputation through interschool sports, developing strong teams, and proudly showing the college values both inside and outside of school.

Nasreen Ali

Jack Doolan

Nasreen is proud to be Warreen House Captain in 2026 because being a leader is something she has always wanted to be. Since she was little, she has admired her school’s house and college captains, and this year she found the courage to apply for the role herself.

Art is a big part of Nasreen’s identity and heart — she loves drawing, writing and cooking. This year, she hopes to bring people together by organising a “well-deserved sausage sizzle” for students, as she believes it will encourage more socialisation at school.

Jack Doolan is proud to be Warreen House Captain in 2026 because he has always felt a strong connection to being a leader. After already captaining his basketball team, becoming House Captain feels like the next step in his leadership journey.

Basketball is very important to Jack, as his team means a lot to him and has helped shape who he is. This year, Jack hopes to make a “really big impact” by leading his Warreen to 1st place in the House Cup and “bringing strong house pride to the school”.
