Curriculum

At the end of Term 1, Years 7-9 have completed Common Tasks that, together with their classwork, will contribute to their Semester 1 report.  Equally, Years 10-12 have completed their Term 1 formal assessment tasks and should now be able to reflect on their learning progress and future learning focus areas.

Notably, Year 10 will undertake their first exam block in Week 5 & 6 of Term 2.  This requires them to take their knowledge and skills in each course into their exams.  It is key that they focus now on strategies to prepare for and use in exam styled assessment.  From now until their exams, they are encouraged to:

  • work closely with their teachers to ensure understanding of content
  • read closely the exam notifications issued in Term 2 to be sure of requirements
  • undertake revision of the content they will be examined on
  • organise a study schedule that is regular and achievable

Year 8 students have had two opportunities this week to develop a deeper understanding of their subject areas in some terrific incursions. Their English writing incursion enabled them to experience a range of workshops focused on the writing process that culminated in their Creative Writing Common Task at the end of the day. Our own Mrs Magda Mizzi also presented as an author, and the girls were surprised to learn of her alter ego as a published writer. Check out her wonderful books at magdamizzi.com

The HSIE incursion saw the students engaging with Viking adventures - testing out the weapons and armour, learning how to use the shields to protect the whole army, how to weave yarn to make clothes, and how the Viking ships were used. These hands-on activities will enable the girls to more effectively understand the life of people from the past.
