KLA Feature: Year 7

It has been a busy term for our newest students, and Year 7 have made a positive and steady start to their CCC high school learning journey. As they navigate the big changes of going from primary school to high school, they have been wonderfully supported by their dedicated homeroom team, subject teachers and each other.
The Big Fish into Little Fish incursion in Week 3 was a valuable opportunity for all students. The afternoon programme provided practical strategies, reassurance, and a chance for students to reflect on their own strengths as they continue to grow and settle into their new environment.
In Week 8, we travelled to the Year 7 Great Aussie Bush Camp! The three-day adventure serves as an integral component of the College induction programme by providing the students with many opportunities to push their comfort zones, make friends and develop independence. Even if the weather wasn’t always on our side, it was certainly true that they were able to create positive new connections with each other and make lasting memories. Many students commented that canoeing, the Survivor Challenge and the Big Swing were definitely their standout activities. As their year leader, I was most heartened to witness their encouragement and kindness towards one another. Experiences like camp are valuable in helping students feel a genuine sense of belonging and connectedness to community. They are to be commended for their positivity and teamwork throughout the entire camp experience.
Last week we celebrated Harmony Day, an important occasion that celebrates culture, inclusion and belonging. Our Year 7 students joined the occasion by wearing traditional clothes and wearing orange accessories to show their support. To see a few of our own Year 7s perform on stage celebrating their culture through dance was especially wonderful - I look forward to seeing even more students from this cohort participate on stage next year!
This period of transition is important; our students are beginning to understand themselves as learners while also adapting to the expectations of a new environment. Congratulations to our Year 7 students on a fantastic start. I look forward to seeing where their journey takes them next.
