Harmony Day Celebration at Our College
On Monday last week, our college community came together to celebrate Harmony Day, recognising the rich diversity of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences that make our school such a vibrant and inclusive place. The day highlighted the importance of respect, inclusion, and a shared sense of belonging for everyone from the Traditional Owners of this land to those who have most recently joined our community.
As a Catholic community, we were reminded that every person is created in the image and likeness of God, and that our diversity reflects the beauty of creation. This message was brought to life through our “Culture Connects Us” activity, where students contributed pieces of their identity to form a symbolic paper chain around the globe mural representing unity, dignity, and connection. This was followed by a Homeroom activity involving a Harmony Chatter box, which was designed to provide inclusive conversation and sharing.
Students proudly showcased their cultural heritage through traditional dress, displaying a vibrant array of colours and patterns, alongside the symbolic orange of Harmony Day representing unity and respect.
Students had the opportunity to come together as a community and take part in a shared Great Aussie BBQ lunch, creating a friendly space for them to socialise, connect, and feel a sense of belonging.
The celebration continued with a series of multicultural performances, where students shared their talents and traditions. These performances not only entertained but also reflected the courage and pride it takes to express one’s identity.
Harmony Day at our college was a meaningful reminder that while we come from many different backgrounds, we are united by shared values of respect, fairness, and belonging.
