Team Strengths Day

Horsham College was awash with house colours on Thursday June 12th for Team Strengths Day as students donned either red, yellow, green or blue to barrack for Briggs, McLachlan, Hall or Darlot. After House Captains visited home rooms to tally the points, Darlot came out on top in the style stakes.

At recess students crowded into the gym to witness a battle of physical strength for the tug-of-war competition with Briggs taking the rope across the line the most times. A very uneven struggle between staff and students was won easily by the teenagers as chaplain Yolande Grosser was sent tumbling across the gym floor in a cocoon of op shop McLachlan yellow within the first two seconds of the fight.

Lunchtime saw musicality come to the fore, with Briggs again taking the lead. An energetic skirmish amongst the final three competitors saw Year 12 student Ella Lloyd tossed through the air – landing safely - allowing local Toby Lakin to compete for first place with departing exchange student Theo Solenghi – who took out the medallion.

Well done Theo!

Hall jumped into action for Tunnel Ball, and although I want to say they were the winners, I can’t - they certainly gave it everything they had with Darlot triumphant on the day! The Laundry Basket Relay saw McLachlan clean-up as they used tongs to move their dozen pairs of socks from basket to basket in the speediest fashion.

Random points of greatness were awarded to students throughout the grounds during the day, particularly for those students demonstrating the school values. Umpires Gardy, Vrankovic, Gutteridge and the formidable Rigas oversaw this test of character strength, with Briggs sweeping ahead of the rest of the field early to beat Hall by only 13 points with McLachlan a close third and Darlot bringing up the rear.

Overall, with points for style, strength, musicality, vision, organisation and general awesomeness added up in a very complicated but fair process designed by the chaplain specifically for this unique event - the results were as follows:

  • 1st Briggs 1698

  • 2nd Hall 1384

  • 3rd McLachlan 1281

  • 4th Darlot 1081

Yolande Grosser (Go McLachlan!!)
