KLA Feature: Science

Term 2 has been a busy and engaging time in Science, with students across Years 7–12 continuing to build their scientific knowledge through practical investigations, collaborative learning, and exciting College-wide events.
Our Year 7 students enjoyed a fantastic excursion to Sydney Zoo on Wednesday of Week 4. Throughout the day, students explored a wide range of ecosystems and animal habitats while applying their understanding of classification, adaptations, and environmental interactions. The excursion provided valuable opportunities for students to connect their classroom learning with real-world examples of biodiversity and conservation.
One of the highlights of the term was our College celebration of the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough on Friday 8th May. Students and staff came together to recognise the extraordinary contributions Sir David Attenborough has made to science communication, wildlife conservation, and environmental awareness across the world. Students participated in a range of science-based activities and reflections inspired by his documentaries and lifelong dedication to exploring and protecting our planet. It was wonderful to see CCC girls engaging so enthusiastically with the natural world and discussing the importance of sustainability and conservation for future generations.
In the classroom, Year 8 students have been developing their Working Scientifically skills and exploring matter and the structure of the atom. Year 9 students have been investigating homeostasis and how the body maintains balance, while Year 10 students have been studying waves, including the electromagnetic spectrum and the behaviour of light and sound.
Our senior Science students have also been working diligently throughout the term. Year 11 students have continued to strengthen their practical and analytical skills through first-hand investigations and scientific inquiry tasks, while Year 12 students are completing their school-based assessments and preparing for the demands of their Trial HSC examinations approaching in Term 3.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication shown by our Science students this term and look forward to another exciting semester of scientific learning and discovery.
