KLA Feature: Year 10

Our Year 10 students are to be commended for the positive way they have begun their first year of senior schooling. They have approached their studies with maturity, dedication and academic focus, while also embracing opportunities to become more involved in the life of the College and their wider learning experiences.
Congratulations to all students who participated in the College Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. The enthusiasm, teamwork and school spirit displayed throughout both events were wonderful to see. Whether competing or joining in non-competitive activities, students demonstrated resilience, confidence and a willingness to contribute positively to College life. We thank all students for their involvement and encourage families to continue supporting their daughters as they embrace the many opportunities that College life provides. We were proud to see some of our Year 10 students progress to the next level in swimming, athletics, and cross-country.
Year 10 were well represented in the cultural dress and dances for Harmony Day, where we celebrated the rich cultural diversity of our college. It is always wonderful to see our students wearing their cultural dress with such pride!
Earlier in the year, Alyssa from 10 Jackson participated in the CSDA Public Speaking Competition. Alyssa successfully progressed to the Grand Final, meaning she had been selected above 80% of finalists from Catholic schools across the wider Sydney area. Congratulations Alyssa on this wonderful achievement!
Our Commerce elective students recently participated in an excursion exploring the role of Transnational Corporations (TNCs) in the global economy. Visits to ALDI and McDonald’s gave students practical insight into globalisation, international trade and consumer behaviour. Students examined global supply chains, branding and how multinational companies adapt to local markets, while also enjoying some hands-on “research” along the way. Overall, the excursion provided an engaging and practical understanding of the interconnected nature of the global economy.
The college was excited to share the news that our Year 10 iSTEM class has been awarded a Soaring Scholarship through the Community Engagement and Social Impact team at Western Sydney International Airport. Special congratulations go to Isabel, who collaborated with her classmates to develop an innovative initiative aimed at strengthening STEM education opportunities. Congratulations to Isabel, Mrs Blakers and the entire Year 10 iSTEM class on this outstanding achievement.
Our Year 10 students are also approaching an important academic milestone as they prepare for their first senior exam block, which will take place across Weeks 5 and 6. It is natural for students to experience increased nerves or heightened emotions as they navigate this new style of assessment and the expectations that come with senior schooling. Families can play an important role in supporting students during this time by encouraging healthy routines and balanced preparation. Speaking with your daughter about her study habits, encouraging consistent school attendance, prioritising adequate sleep, reducing unnecessary screen time, and, where possible, limiting work commitments can all help students manage this busy period more effectively. Our students are also encouraged to seek support from their teachers if they are unsure about course content or would benefit from additional clarification and feedback. Most importantly, we remind our students that exams are part of the learning journey. They are opportunities for growth, reflection, and improvement and do not define a student’s value or potential.
The recent Elevate Study Skills sessions attended by Year 10 students have provided valuable strategies and practical tools to support their preparation for the upcoming exam block. We hope students will continue to apply these study techniques as they develop effective habits, build confidence, and approach their exams with greater organisation and resilience.
Year 10 students are approaching another important milestone as they begin the subject selection process for their senior studies in Years 11 and 12. Students are encouraged to have thoughtful conversations with their teachers to help guide their decisions and explore pathways aligned with their interests and aspirations. A number of important events will support students and families throughout this process, including the Careers Market, subject information presentations, the Parent and Student Information Evening, and individual subject selection interviews.
Our Year 10 homerooms are also busy planning their initiative for Caroline Chisholm Day, which will take place on Friday, 26th June. We look forward to seeing the array of stalls/activities they have on offer on the day.
Our Year 10 Formation Day will be held on Tuesday, 30 June. This day provides students with a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing friendships, build new connections and deepen their faith through reflection and shared experiences. We look forward to sharing this day with all of Year 10!
