Literacy Enrichment

The world of Literacy Enrichment this term so far has been jam-packed. Under the guidance of Resource Centre Manager Mrs Wheeler, the student and staff book club for lovers of fantasy fiction, Journey, is well into their latest read, ‘Burn’ by Patrick Ness, and will be ready for some robust discussions over a hot chip lunch at the end of term.

See details below for some of the awesome books they have read so far as a community. Mrs Wheeler also ran a 100 book Homegroup Reading Challenge, with Carroll 3 and Sherrin 1  both reaching this milestone. Which Homegroup will be next?

Last newsletter the Insight Creative Writing Competition was mentioned with considerable interest from students across the College. The deadline for entries is 1 September and details may be obtained from Mrs Sadler.

On the theme of competitions, expressions of interest are sought from students who would like to be part of a College team entry in the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ competition which raises funds for childhood cancer research. The College is looking for 10 students who are up for the ultimate test of teamwork - writing and illustrating a book together in a 12 hour time period, and fundraising for childhood cancer research in the lead up to the day.

There is a cost of $10 per student to cover registration. Interested students are to contact Mrs Sadler sadlerr@ww.catholic.edu.au. What a great way to express the Cardinal Virtues of Prudence and Fortitude.
