Year 8 STEAM
Year 8 have been working busily in their Emergency House teams as engineers, project manager and sustainability officers and architects to meet the following brief:
Students are to research and design their own, accessible, self-sufficient, off-grid emergency house to be used in response to a natural disaster.
Students will be presenting their Emergency House companies and innovative housing solutions to students from local primary schools and Mater Dei students. The Year 8 cohort has been collaborating and communicating via a shared Canvas Workspace, where they can share their role information to ensure the smooth development of their companies.
Year 8 parents are invited to attend the Emergency Housing Showcase on the following dates and times:
STEAM 4,5,6 Classes - Emergency Housing Showcase
When: Tuesday 24 June
Time: 12:30pm to 1:20pm
Where: MDCC Hall
STEAM 1,2,3 Classes - Emergency Housing Showcase
When: Tuesday 1 July
Time: 10:05am to 10:50am
Where: MDCC Hall
Year 9 Girls in STEM High Tea
A Compass notification will go out to Year 9 parents over the coming weeks to consent to the annual Mater Dei Girls in STEM High Tea.
We are currently in the process of attaining female STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) mentors for the event and would appreciate contact from any parents who are interested in donating some time to support the students as a mentor.
