Year 7 Murrumbidgee Riverside / CBD Precinct Excursion
Unfortunately, due to the (much needed) rain, the River and CBD Fieldwork excursion had to be postponed. It is hoped that this experience can be rescheduled after the assessment period.
Year 8 Altina Wildlife Park Excursion
As part of their exploration of Interconnections in Geography, Year 8 embarked on an excursion to Altina Wildlife Park in Darlington Point in Week 2. This immersive experience allowed them to witness firsthand the complex web of relationships between animals, their habitats, and human involvement in conservation efforts.
Year 9 Australians at War
Our Year 9 historians have been deeply engaged in their study of "Australians at War," exploring the profound impact of WWI and WWII on our nation and its people. This term, they've been examining key battles, the experiences of soldiers and civilians, and the lasting legacies of war on Australian identity and society. Through a combination of research, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and engaging discussions, students are developing a comprehensive understanding of this pivotal period in Australian history.
Year 10 In-Depth Holocaust Study
This term, Year 10 students have undertaken an in-depth study of the Holocaust, one of the darkest periods in human history. The curriculum aimed to foster not only an understanding of the historical events, but also a deeper engagement with the Holocaust's lasting impact.
Some students engaged in a 'personal interest project' where they were encouraged to explore a specific aspect of the Holocaust that resonated with them on a personal level. This approach allowed for a more individualized and meaningful connection to the subject matter. Projects spanned a wide range of topics, including:
- Life and death in Auschwitz
- Kristallnacht
- Comparisons between The Holocaust and modern political actions
- Contemporary genocides and their connections to the Holocaust
- The use of social media to spread & the rise of neo-nazism in the modern world.
- A study of Once by M.Gleitzman: the atrocities witnessed in Nazi occupied Poland told from a child’s perspective, and
- The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
Through this project, students demonstrated their research skills and developed critical thinking abilities. They were challenged to connect historical events to contemporary issues, drawing parallels and reflecting on the ongoing relevance of the Holocaust.
The projects showcased a remarkable level of maturity and empathy, with students demonstrating a profound understanding of the complexities and human cost of the Holocaust. Mrs. Val Thomas joined the students at the project exhibition, where she shared her professional and personal reflections on the Holocaust, including a particularly moving account of her visit to Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.
Year 11 Legal Studies
Year 11 Legal Studies recently spent the day observing criminal matters in both the Local and District Courts. They were fortunate enough to be addressed by Magistrate Christofi and Police Prosecutor, Sgt Jones in the Local Court as well as Judge Gordon Lerve in the District Court. The opportunity to see what we had been learning all about in class and ask questions of key personnel was invaluable.
