What a great term so far!

Firstly, a huge thank you to all of our families for your amazing efforts for Book Week! It was such a fantastic day, and the children absolutely loved coming to school dressed in their costumes and sharing their favourite books and characters with their friends. We really appreciate the time, effort and creativity that went into making the day so special for our Preps!

Our Prep students are off to a fantastic start with their swimming program and are loving being in the water with their friends! We are very proud of how well the children have listened to their instructors and how independently they are getting themselves dressed and organised after each session. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and independence growing.

Over the coming weeks, some Literacy and Numeracy learning tasks will be shared with families through Compass as part of our online reporting. We are very excited to use these tasks during our Family Conferences in Week 9 to celebrate each child’s progress and discuss the areas of learning we can continue to develop and support.

We cannot believe that Term 3 is quickly coming to an end and that we only have one more term with our special little people! There is still plenty to look forward to before then, including Footy Day!

Our Learning - Term 3 Weeks 8 & 9

In English, students will: learn to read and write phonemes Stage 5 and 6 letter-sounds. identify and say first, middle and final sounds in different words. segment and blend CCVCC words and unfamiliar words to create short sentences with independence. identify and say 2 syllable words and segment and blend compound words. continue to punctuate sentences. continue to identify and use adjectives, nouns and verbs in their own sentences. continue to explore and create their own information texts. identify facts and opinions in a text and write facts about different animals. compare animals and find facts that are the same and different. continue to identify the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. make predictions, text to self-connections and text to text-connections in different texts. infer details about a character or event using clues from pictures in a book.
In Maths, students will: review addition and subtraction strategies previously learnt. review and practice place value of 2-digit numbers. identify times of the day and put events in the order they happen. recognise the order of the days of the week. recognisehow days and dates areorganised on a calendar.
In Inquiry, students will: observe features in our local environment. learn that places can change over time. how places can be cared for. represent places using pictures and maps.
In SEL, students will: learn to tell the difference between safe (keep) secrets and unsafe (tell) secrets. solve problems by thinking, talking and helping each other. learn how to include others andhelp everyone feel welcome.

Weeks 9 and 10 every Wednesday: Swimming continues.
Week 9: Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th September: Family Teacher Conversations.
Week 10: Friday 18th September: Footy Day. Come dressed in your footy gear.
Readers. Please continue to support your child by reading with them each day. As they learn new letters, sounds and words, regular practice helps build their confidence and improve their reading skills. Please ensure that when you read, you record this in their phonics books. This helps your child's teacher to acknowledge, celebrate and support your child's development further.
Library books. Remember to return library books on your child's library day.
Stay Updated on Your Child’s Learning. Please check Compass regularly to see information about your child’s assessments and progress. Compass also keeps you informed about important events and any changes at school.
