Year 6 Update

It's been another busy and rewarding few weeks in Year 6! 

From engaging classroom learning to hands-on experiences, we're proud to share some of the highlights from our students' journey.

Book Week

It was fantastic to see so many of our Year 6 students embracing the spirit of Book Week and dressing up for their final primary school Book Week parade! From much-loved characters to creative and clever costumes, students brought plenty of enthusiasm and fun to the day. It was wonderful to see them making the most of this special Year 6 milestone and celebrating their love of books and reading together.

Lightning Premiership

After many weeks of training and preparation, it was finally time for our Year 6 students to shine at the Lightning Premiership! Students competed with determination, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship throughout a hard-fought day of competition. A huge congratulations to our Mixed Basketball, Girls Cricket and Boys Cricket teams, who all finished as runners-up – a tremendous achievement! We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and team spirit shown by all of our students throughout the day.

Learning Snapshot

Our Year 6 students continue to build on their knowledge and skills across all areas of the curriculum as we move through another busy few weeks of learning.

English: Students are continuing their novel study of Help Around the House by Morris Gleitzman. They are exploring key events, characters, relationships and themes while strengthening their comprehension and using evidence from the text to explain and justify their thinking.

Mathematics: Students are consolidating their understanding of division, revisiting a range of mental and written strategies and selecting the most efficient method for different problems. They are applying these skills to increasingly challenging calculations and real-world problem-solving situations.

Respectful Relationships: Our focus remains on positive gender relations, with students exploring the qualities of respectful and equal relationships. Students are considering how attitudes, behaviours and communication can contribute to creating safe, supportive and inclusive environments.

Inquiry: Building on our learning about Australian government, students are now investigating how a bill becomes a law. They are exploring the journey of a proposed bill through Parliament and developing their understanding of debate, voting and the roles of the House of Representatives and Senate in Australia's democratic process.
