Year 3 Update

Our Learning - Weeks 8 and 9

English

• Students have continued developing their handwriting by practising diagonal joins.
• Students have explored the prefix of quad and applied this to their writing.
• Students have strengthened their sentence knowledge by identifying the subject - verb agreement. They have connected this knowledge with their prior learning of singular and plural verbs to ensure their writing makes sense by the verb agreeing with the subject.
• Students are continuing to  study The Sugarcane Kids and the Red-Bottomed Boat, exploring how friendship can develop through teamwork and a shared goal.
• Through their reading, students have continued to investigated clues, character actions, trust and teamwork, using evidence from the text to explain how the Sugarcane Kids work together to solve the mystery.
• Students have applied their understanding through paragraph and diary writing, including writing in first person from a character’s perspective and using events and clues from the text to support their ideas.

Maths

• Students have been extending their knowledge of divsion by exploring the strategies of 'half the half ' when dividing by 4, and "the power of 10' when learning to divide by 5.
• Students have extended this learning to solve worded problems.
• Students are continuing to develop their number fluency through our Fluency in 5 program, all children enjoy working through the levels and are making progress.

SEL

• This term, students are focusing on Topic 9- Positive Gender Relationships of the Respectful Relationships lessons. 
• Students will explore: gender based violence and learn how to recognise this behaviour and strategies to prevent it by learning the Stop, Go and Tell strategy.

Inquiry

• Students will be starting their animal and enviroment triorama. This will be an exciting time as the children will be choosing an Australian animal, creating this animal and it's habitat as well as making an information poster to match. 

Events and Reminders

Home work - A friendly reminder that students have a reading log and their multiplication charts in their homework books. It is an expectation that they read their fluency passages and practise their timestables at home, bringing their book in to be checked by their teacher on the designated day.

Hats - From September 1st all children must wear a hat out in the yard during recess and lunchtime.  Please ensure your child has a hat.
