Barbering Masterclass ✂️
What a great day our Barbering students had in their last day of Term with a special visitor giving the students a Barbering Masterclass.
Elias from 'Mr Zeytoun' gave the students a run down on what it is like to run your own Barbering business. How to begin, what you need, how to entice customers and keep them and how to increase your social media presence.
Elias spoke to the students about his journey and offered essential tips to becoming successful.
Elias then demonstrated all the skills required to be a sought after barber from scissor skills to fades and everything in between. As you can see, this demonstration drew a crowd from other interested students.
Our Certificate II in Salon Assistant (Barbering) students said that the masterclass was absolutely fantastic and very worthwhile. Students learnt new tricks, tips and information needed to extend their current home businesses and branding. We thank Elias for coming in and sharing his story and information with our students and we would welcome him back anytime.
Learning, Skills and Pathways
As we come to the end of Term 3, it has been another busy and exciting term for VETDSS students at Nazareth College!
Our VET students have continued to develop practical skills, gain industry knowledge and work towards nationally recognised qualifications, all while completing their secondary education.
🔨 Learning by Doing
One of the great things about VET is that students get the opportunity to learn by doing.
Across all VET courses, students have been getting hands-on experience and developing skills that can be used in the workplace and beyond. Whether they are working with tools, preparing food, supporting clients, running a business, developing technology skills, creating performances, or learning about health and community services, VET provides students with valuable opportunities to put their learning into practice.
Alongside their technical skills, students are also developing important employability skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organisation, responsibility, and confidence.
A VET course can open doors
Studying a VET course is a great option for students who enjoy practical learning and want to explore a particular industry while still at school.
Depending on the course, VET can contribute towards a student's VCE and/or ATAR, provide credit towards further study, support an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway, and help students gain skills and experience that can lead directly into employment.
Most importantly, a VET course can help students discover what they enjoy, what they are good at and where their skills could take them.

If you're in Years 9–11 and wondering whether VET might be right for you, now is a great time to start exploring your options for 2027.
Talk to your parents or carers, speak with your teachers, research different industries, and visit the Careers Office in the Joseph Centre to find out more.
You don't have to know exactly what career you want before choosing VET. Sometimes, trying something practical is the best way to discover where your interests and strengths lie.
