Middle School update

by Ms Eleanor Smith, Head of Middle School

Our Year 9 students kicked off Term 4 with their City Camp in Week 2. Students stayed in the Melbourne CBD and completed research projects as part of their Maths and Geography units, with a focus on citizenship and exploring what makes Melbourne great. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their learning in real-world contexts and develop independence and teamwork skills.

Student Jennifer H's reflection:

The city experience camp was one to remember! The memories made are ones we will never forget. Being able to watch the sunset (and take plenty photos, of course) 88 floors high at the Eureka Skydeck was absolutely beautiful and a core memory I’m sure for many of us Year 9 students. Even though it was only a one night stay and I wished it was longer, it was great to be able to explore the CBD, collecting data and having fun with all my peers.

We also held our Year 9 and 10 assemblies in Week 2, centred around this term’s theme of Creativity. Students were encouraged to explore ways to be creative both personally and academically; whether through problem-solving, expression, or innovative thinking in their learning. It was wonderful to see so many of our talented students perform, and a special thank you goes to our Class Captains and Year 10 Leaders for their confident and professional MC work throughout the assemblies.

Our Year 10s are now completing their final week of coursework before moving into revision for their end-of-year exams. Parents and carers can support their child by helping them establish a regular study routine, minimising distractions at home, and encouraging active revision strategies such as summarising notes, practising past questions, and discussing key ideas.

Finally, a reminder about the importance of attendance and punctuality- being at school on time each day helps students stay connected, organised, and prepared for success as we move towards the end of the year. Please support your child with getting to school on time every day.

We are looking forward to a great second half of the term. Lots of exciting opportunities ahead for our Middle School students!
