Fantastic 4

Term 3 Week 2
Year 4 Newsletter
Welcome to Week 2 of Term 3!
Literacy:
This term, our Year 4 students will be exploring the wonderful world of poetry through a range of engaging picture books and a free verse novel. We will begin by exploring Outside In to learn about personification, Listen to discover onomatopoeia, My Amazing Alphabet to investigate alliteration, and Owl Moon to develop an understanding of imagery, followed by reading and analysing The Little Wave. Throughout the unit, students will identify and discuss how poets use these language features to create vivid images and engage their readers.
As we read our free verse novel, students will analyse the text in sections, developing their comprehension skills through discussion, questioning and written responses. They will examine how poets carefully choose words and structure their writing to communicate emotions, ideas and experiences. Students will also have the opportunity to read and respond to a variety of poems before selecting a favourite poem to analyse as part of their Poetry CAT.
Towards the end of the term, students will apply everything they have learnt by planning, drafting, editing and publishing their own original poems. They will be encouraged to experiment with different poetic techniques and language features to create engaging and expressive writing. We look forward to celebrating their creativity and sharing their published poetry at the end of the unit.
