Welcome to Week 2 of Term 3! 

Literacy:

This week in Poetry, students have been exploring the elements of narrative poetry and how poets use language features to tell engaging stories through verse. We have investigated how narrative poems include key storytelling elements. Students have explored how poets bring their writing to life by using different poetic devices. We have focused on personification, where human qualities are given to non-human objects, animals or ideas to create vivid images and deeper meaning. Students have also explored onomatopoeia, where words are used to imitate sounds, helping readers imagine the action and events taking place in the poem. Throughout the week, students have been identifying these features in poems and experimenting with using them in their own writing.

Maths:

This week in Maths, students have been developing their understanding of multiplication and division by applying their knowledge to solve a range of practical problems. We have been focusing on using mathematical thinking to identify whether a problem requires multiplication or division and representing these situations using number sentences, diagrams and efficient strategies. Students have explored how multiplication can represent equal groups, repeated addition and arrays, while division can be used to solve problems involving sharing equally or finding how many groups can be made. They have practised connecting multiplication and division facts, recognising that these operations are inverse operations and can be used to check solutions. Identifying key information in worded problems. Choosing an appropriate operation and strategy. Representing problems using drawings, arrays, equal groups and number sentences. 

Inquiry:

This term in Inquiry, students will be exploring the important role that communities play in our everyday lives. They will investigate what makes a community successful, the responsibilities of community members, and how people can make positive contributions to help others.

Throughout the unit, students will compare different Australian communities, learn about the roles of community helpers, and discuss why rules and responsibilities are essential for keeping communities safe, inclusive and connected. They will also explore challenges that communities face and consider possible solutions to help improve them.

To conclude the unit, students will complete a Community Project, where they will design and create a poster showcasing their understanding of communities. They will explain what makes a community thrive, investigate how people contribute, identify community challenges and solutions, and design their own ideal community. This project will encourage students to apply their learning while demonstrating creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
