Welcome to Term 3!
Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you all enjoyed a relaxing holiday break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends.
We are excited for another wonderful term of learning, laughter and new experiences in Prep. This term is packed with exciting events and celebrations, and we can't wait to share them with you. Our students will continue to grow in confidence, develop new skills and make lasting memories throughout the term.

What we are learning!
Maths:
In Mathematics, we have been learning how to solve number stories using addition and subtraction. We have been reading simple real-life stories and thinking carefully about what is happening to decide whether we need to add or take away. The children have been identifying important information in the story, choosing the correct operation, and explaining their thinking.
To help build their understanding, students have been using a range of hands-on materials such as counters, ten frames, number lines, drawings, and pictures to model the problem before writing a matching number sentence. They have been developing confidence in solving addition and subtraction problems, checking that their answers make sense, and sharing the different strategies they use with their classmates.
Students have also enjoyed creating their own number stories. They have been making up simple addition and subtraction problems, drawing pictures to match their stories, and writing the corresponding number sentences. This has helped them develop a deeper understanding of how addition and subtraction can be used to solve everyday problems while encouraging creativity and mathematical thinking.
Inquiry:
In Inquiry this term, our Prep students will be exploring the fascinating world of living and non-living things. Through hands-on investigations, discussions and play-based learning experiences, students will learn how to identify the features of living things and discover what all living things need to survive, including food, water, air and shelter. They will compare living and non-living objects, sort and classify different items, and begin to understand how living things grow and change over time.
A highlight of our Inquiry learning this term will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We are very excited to welcome a Butterfly Incursion into our classroom later in the term, where students will have the opportunity to observe real butterflies and learn more about their incredible life cycle through an engaging, hands-on experience. More information about this exciting incursion will be shared with families closer to the date.
We are looking forward to a wonderful term of discovery as our young scientists ask questions, make observations and explore the amazing world around them!
Literacy:
In Literacy this term, our Prep students will be exploring poetry, with a focus on couplets. Students will enjoy reading and listening to a variety of simple poems while learning about rhythm, rhyme and expression. They will investigate different rhyming words, identify rhyming patterns and practise creating their own rhyming pairs through engaging games and activities.
As the term progresses, students will build on these skills by planning and writing their own couplets. This exciting unit will encourage creativity, expand vocabulary and help students develop confidence as young writers while having fun experimenting with language.
We are focussing on Prep reading fluency expression. Taking pause at a full stop and not rushing their sentences. This is embedded into fluency pairs as per some photo below.

Leader In Me:
Students are also participating in regular Leader in Me (LIM) lessons each week. During these sessions, students are learning important skills such as being kind and respectful, making good choices, listening to others and working together positively with their classmates.

Monday: Music, Auslan and RRRR
Tuesday: Leader in Me, PE and Art
Friday: Assembly (2.45pm in the hall, all parents welcome.)
Important reminders:
- Lost Property baskets are kept inside the glass doors of the BER and near the office of the main building.
