Year 2 Newsletter

Term 3 Week 2 2026 -  Friday 24th, July.

What have we been up to?

Welcome to term 3! We can't believe that it is already our second semester. We are so excited for what lies ahead this term! From excursions to book week celebrations, we can't wait for it all!

We have started our term by setting our new academic and personal WIGS. We have also presented, and voted for our new Semester 2 Lighthouse Leader! We are so proud of everyone who has been brave enough to stand up in front of the class and give this a go!

In Literacy, We have started our new unit of Poetry. Each week we will be focussing on a text that follows a specific type of poem. So far, we have focused on shape poems and haikus. The students are building a poetry book full of their poems that they will be able to share at the end of the unit.

In Maths, so far we have been focusing on addition and subtraction. We are focussing on halving and doubling numbers using arrays. We have been able to use a collection of hands on manipulatives to create arrays. We have been using these arrays to strengthen our skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s to count the numbers within an array. We now know that skip counting can make our counting jobs much easier, rather than counting one by one.

In Inquiry, we are learning about the past and present in our community. This term we will be making our way to the Ripponlea estate where we will get to explore life in ‘the olden days’. Our world has changed so much. Whether that be at school, the transportation, the toys we use and the electronics that we use in our day to day life. We will get to explore and understand how we got to where we are today.

Important reminders:

  • Hats are not required in term 2 or 3, but they are encouraged, as the sun is still shining! Please continue to send your child to school with a water bottle each day
  • We are continuing to send take home readers each week. Your child will not be able to take home a book without a reading satchel. If your child does not have one, please reach out to your classroom teacher. If you have any further feedback or questions regarding take home readers, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher.

Please feel free to reach out to your classroom teacher  if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support, The year 2 team!
