Performing Arts Department News

As Semester Two is about to begin it is an excellent opportunity to look back on the successes of Term Two and look forward to what is ahead.  Our Autumn Concert showcased our ensembles and soloists and were a wonderful way of sharing music with friends and family.  We are looking forward to hearing the progress that they make as they work through the rest of the year.  We also had several notable performances at the recent Sale Eisteddfod. The results are as follows:

  • Show Choir - 1st in OpenChoir
  • Male Vocals Crew - 1st in Vocal Ensemble
  • Sion Singers – 1st in Junior Choir
  • Concert Band – 1st in Beginner Band/Orchestra; 1st in John Leslie Scholarship School Concert Band
  • Guitar Ensemble – 2nd in Beginner Band/Orchestra
  • Amelia Jinesh – 2nd in Piano Solo gr 2/3 Syllabus; 2nd in Piano Duet 12 years and under; Hon Mention in Intermediate Piano Championship yr 7-9; 1st in Vocal Solo 11 & 12 years; 2nd in Stage or Film Solo yr 7 – 10; Hon Mention in Vocal Solo Championship yr 7 - Open
  • Aiden Ryan – 1st in Vocal Solo 13 - 17 years
  • Claire Ingram - 3rd in Vocal Solo 13 - 17 years

Congratulations to all who competed on their performances – it was wonderful to hear live music and to have the opportunity to practice performing in front of an audience and an adjudicator!  We are currently preparing students for the Yarram and Latrobe Valley Eisteddfods.

Places available

It is not too late to join in the activities in the Music Department – we have new members joining all through the year!  We would particularly like more woodwind players and a cello or two is always welcome. There is also one vacancy at St Pats for acoustic double bass.  Fill in the online application form and/or see Ms Roffe, or any of our other music teachers if you would like to start learning an instrument.  All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to practice regularly.  Our Sion Singers, Male Vocals Crew and Liturgical Singers are groups that are open to anyone – just come along to a rehearsal or see one of the music staff for details.

Calendar Dates

The Yarram Eisteddfod dates are on the week starting Monday 11th August and going through to the following Monday.  Details will follow and also details of the pre-Eisteddfod concert. The Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod details will also be released next term.

I look forward to seeing you at one or more of these events and thank you all for your continued support of Performing Arts at Catholic College Sale.
