Student Exchange Program - Stef Worcester
Going on exchange to France was one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. I spent nearly four months living in a small village near Dijon, arriving in October and returning in late January. While many people imagine exchange as a long holiday, it is far from that. There is real work involved, both academically and emotionally. School days in France were intense, lasting up to 10 hours, and the curriculum was demanding. However, these challenges helped me grow and become more resilient. One of the hardest parts was actually getting there. The plane ride took nearly two days with no sleep. Although it was exhausting, I was lucky enough to make friends during the journey, which made the transition easier. I was incredibly fortunate with my host family. They were kind, supportive, and welcoming, which helped me avoid the homesickness that many other exchange students experienced. I still talk to them today and feel like I gained a second family. Despite the hard work, I also had unforgettable experiences. I went skiing in the Swiss Alps, climbed the Eiffel Tower, and explored all of Paris in just two days. These moments made the effort worth it. I would absolutely recommend going on exchange to anyone who is considering it. However, it is a big commitment. It is not a vacation, and you will be pushed out of your comfort zone. But if you are open to learning, growing, and embracing a different culture, it is an experience that can change your life.
