This week we have seen the Government deliver the new budget. Have a go at doing some budget work below.
🌶️ Mild
The government has $20 million to spend.
Share it between:
- Schools
- Hospitals
- Roads
How would you share the money? Explain your thinking.

A budget has:
- Education: $50 billion
- Health: $70 billion
- Transport: $30 billion
What is the total budget? If you added in a new section called 'Tourism' how would you split the budget now? Show at least 3 different options.
🌶️🌶️🌶️ Spicy
The government has planned a budget of $250 billion.
It wants to spend:
- 30% on Health
- 22% on Education
- 18% on Defence
- 12% on Transport
- The rest on Housing and Community Services
Questions:
- How much money is spent on each area?
- How much money is left for Housing and Community Services?
- The government decides to reduce Defence spending by $5 billion and split this money equally between Education and Housing. What are the new amounts?
